Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Your adventure begins with a warm welcome at Kigali International Airport, where your private driver-guide will meet you. Depending on your arrival time, you may opt for a short city tour to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial or browse local crafts at Caplaki market. From there, enjoy a scenic 2.5-hour drive north to Musanze, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park. The journey winds through Rwanda’s famed “Land of a Thousand Hills,” offering glimpses of rural life and lush landscapes. Upon arrival, check into your lodge near the park and settle in for a relaxing evening. Your guide will brief you on the gorilla trekking experience and help you prepare gear for the next day.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience
After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a mandatory briefing. Here, you’ll be assigned to one of the 12 habituated gorilla families based on your fitness level and preferences. The trek itself can range from one to six hours, depending on the gorillas’ location, and takes you deep into the misty montane forests of the Virunga Mountains. Once you locate your assigned group, you’ll spend a magical hour observing their behavior, interactions, and sheer presence—an experience that’s both humbling and unforgettable. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and a well-earned rest. In the afternoon, you may choose to visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to engage with local traditions, music, and storytelling.
